General Information

Woodlands Outdoor Education Centre is located in the Wye valley on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains.
The Centre offers a high standard of accommodation and is set within 10 acres of grounds which are developed for a range of activities.
The Centre and all of its staff are committed to ensuring each course is successful, enjoyable and memorable.

OPPORTUNITIES
Woodlands offers a wide range of challenging outdoor activities, for example: mountain walking, overnight expeditions, open canoeing, kayaking, orienteering, caving, rock climbing, in grounds ropes course and environmental studies.
Woodlands has a strong reputation for the educational content of its courses. This is reinforced both through the activities and the residential elements of the courses. We strongly believe we have a positive long term impact on each individual who visits the Centre.
Evenings are structured and will typically involve problem solving activities together with review sessions designed to enable the individual to assess and reflect on daily progress.

ACCOMMODATION
Woodlands can accommodate up to 56 students in small rooms of 4 or 6. Separate twin bedded rooms are provided for up to 6 visiting staff. There is a high standard of toilet and washing facilities for both visiting students and staff.
Groups are fully catered for using our excellent dining facilities. We are able to accommodate a range of requirements.
Our wide range of facilities include a large lounge, staff/meeting room and classrooms with full ICT and DVD provision.
We have a drying room and equipment stores to cater for a variety of adventure activities in all conditions

Within the grounds we have a large tepee with space for 50 people and a large summer house which can be used as an outside classroom.

SPECIAL NEEDS
The Centre welcomes all students with special needs. Please contact the Centre to explore the opportunities available. We now have a new purpose built accommodation facility which was completed Easter 2010.

SAFETY
Woodlands enjoys an exemplary safety record with the experienced staff team holding a wide range of National Governing Body awards. The Centre is licensed under the Activity Centre (Young Peoples) Safety Act 1995. It is also accredited and approved by the Mountain Leader Training Board and the Association of Heads of Outdoor Centres.Woodlands has been inspected by the A.A.L.S and is registered as licensed to provide specified activities under the following headings: Caving: Climbing: Trekking and Watersports.
